System Announcements

  • Blackboard mobile apps changing (Tuesday, July 18, 2017)

The Blackboard mobile apps are changing.  There will be two different apps available starting this month.  One app is for students and another is for faculty members, so be sure to get the correct one.

The original app called "Blackboard Mobile Learn," which anyone could have been using, will be removed from all app stores at the beginning of August, and Blackboard will no longer support that old app after August 31, 2017.  You can continue to use that app if you already have it installed on your smartphone or tablet but be aware that it won't be updated by Blackboard.

Students already have a new option available to them just labeled "Blackboard."  It has been out for quite a while now, so many students may have already downloaded it. (It was previously labeled Bb Student.)  If you have been using the original app that has "Learn" in the name, you should instead get this new "Blackboard" app.

Faculty should download the new "Blackboard Instructor" app that will be available by the end of July.

Both students and faculty can also use a mobile browser, such as Firefox, to open Blackboard.  Even though mobile browsers are not supported by Blackboard, they work fairly well on tablets especially.  For smartphones, the mobile browsers are a little harder to use because of the small screen size.  You will probably want to use the Blackboard app on smartphones.

  • For Students: How to remove old classes from course list (Thursday, July 6, 2017)

If you have been at Oregon Tech for more than one term, you'll notice that your old classes are still listed even though you can't open them after a certain date.  If you don't want those to display, follow these steps.

On the first page you see when you log into Blackboard, look for a small circle icon in the box labeled "Course List."  Click that circle and you'll see a page of options.  The only thing you need to do is click the box in front of "Group by Terms."  (It is at the top of the page.)  Then click Submit.
